  • SLEEPING WITH A FAN, IS IT A GOOD IDEA?

Ventilateur Clinique Les Oliviers

Summer, season of sweltering heat!
To cool down and get the room to a pleasant temperature, we can use a lightweight and transportable equipment called a fan.  It can also be fixed to the ceiling.
The heat persists on some summer nights and finding sleep becomes difficult. The temptation to leave the fan running to sleep becomes too strong! Is it a good idea ?

Disadvantages and effects on health

Losing sleep or having a restless night during heat waves is due to the fact that the body is found in an unpleasant and unusual atmosphere: heat and humidity.
The fan agitates the air and as a result, it transports dust and pollen seeds from the room. It can cause respiratory problems for people with allergies or asthma.
The ventilator also refreshes by the evaporation effect of sweat. Sleeping with the fan on, promotes dehydration and dryness of the skin. In the same way, it dries the throat and the nasal fossae, so much that you wake up to a stuffy nose and headaches.
Given the constant airflow that it produces on the body, you can also wake up with body aches and torticollis.

What to do then?

First advice, avoid going directly from a warm room to a room with a fan where the air is cool to protect you from thermal shock.
Regularly clean the fan and its blades of dust and sediment that settles there.
Have a fan with timer. The room cools sufficiently and the machine stops to avoid long exposure during your sleep.
